FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The men's tennis team returned to action in their first match of the season as the Golden Eagles easily defeated host Saint Francis (Ind.) 9-0. CU will have three more dual matches this fall against Judson, Goshen and Huntington as well as the ITA Regional in Grand Rapids.
Doubles Highlights: With three new faces to the lineup to start the fall, it was returners
Austin Hendrick and
Sam Ottosen that got things started with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Newcomers
Marc Lerch and
Francisco Fernandez won at No. 2 doubles (8-2) and returning sophomore
Dan Ribbink partnered with
Sam Riley to win 8-3 at No. 3.
Singles Highlights: Cornerstone dominated the Cougars in singles play as all six matches were won in straight sets. Lerch and Fernandez each won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 and 2.
Sam Riley also played solid with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5.
Next Up? Cornerstone will play Judson University (Ill.) next Saturday.
