WHAC opener highlights 5-match week for volleyball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a long trip out to Nebraska last week, the Cornerstone volleyball team now turns their attention to the conference slate that opens Wednesday at rival Davenport. The match is one of five for CU as they will head to Livonia this weekend to participate in the Julie Martin Memorial Tournament hosted by Madonna.

SCOUTING DAVENPORT
The Panthers are under the direction of seventh-year head coach Megan Lenhart as they are off to a 3-5 start so far in 2016. Davenport has had a difficult schedule that has seen them play four Top-25 teams so far. The Panthers have been led on offense by Krissy Dill who has 101 kills which is almost 40 more than the next attacker. Defensively, Morgan Torres (100) and Kasey Stehouwer (84) lead the team in digs.

SCOUTING WINDSOR
Windsor is making their first appearance of 2016 at the tournament at Madonna. Last season, the Lancers posted an overall record of 18-16 including an 0-2 mark at the same tourney. Windsor fell in the OUA Quarterfinals to McMaster.

SCOUTING SAINT XAVIER
Cornerstone and Saint Xavier will meet for the first of three regular season meetings this weekend in Livonia. The Cougars bring a 4-2 overall record into the week as head coach Bob Heersma and his team are taking on St Ambrose on Tuesday night in their league opener. SXU has been led on offense by Rory Manion who has a team-best 75 kills.

SCOUTING VITERBO
The V-Hawks have continued their recent success after making a long run in the national tourney a few years ago. Head coach Ryan DeLong and his team bring an overall record of 7-2 into the week that will see them Western Ontario and Madonna before taking on CU on Saturday. The V-Hawks are fresh off a weekend that saw them posts wins over No. 1 Columbia, No. 2 Missouri Baptist, No. 12 Park and No. RV Olivet Nazarene.

SCOUTING WESTERN ONTARIO
The Mustangs are making their first appearance of the season at the tourney at Madonna after posting an 18-4 mark in 2015. Head coach Melissa Bartlett is in her fourth season after leading her team to a bronze medal in the OUA playoffs last season.
