GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Defending national champion Northwestern Ohio came out and played like the no. 3 team in the country, downing the Golden Eagles 4-0. CU was able to slow down the Racers after allowing four goals in the first half, but they could not find anything offensively. With the loss, Cornerstone now moves to 7-6-2, 3-4-1 WHAC as they will get set to host rival Aquinas on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Game Flow...
Northwestern Ohio was able to find the net early and often, scoring four goals in the first 20 minutes of the match. The goals were highlighted with a pair of finishes by leading scorer Evdokia Popadinova, who tallied her 16
th and 17
th goals of the season to help take a 4-0 lead into the half. CU was able to settle in defensively to end the first half, but were unable to get the ball past the UNOH defense, failing to record a shot in the period.
Cornerstone did an excellent job of slowing down the UNOH offense in the second half allowing just five shots in the period.
Abby Workman came in and played the second half in net, and did not allow a goal in the 4-0 loss.
