GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles earn a 1-0 victory over cross-town rival Aquinas College thanks to a goal by senior
Tori Johns. The win helps Cornerstone to clinch a berth to the conference tournament with still one regular season game remaining, as their record now moves to 8-6-2, 4-4-1 WHAC overall. CU will close out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. for senior day at CU Soccer Field against a winless UM-Dearborn squad.

Cornerstone started the match with high energy, creating nine shot opportunities for themselves in the first 45 minutes. A chance inside the box by
Tori Johns ended up being the goal that would break the scoring in the the 25
th minute as Johns rebounded her own shot that was blocked by AQ keeper Kylie Robb, finding the net to take a 1-0 lead. CU would hold a 1-0 lead going into the half.
Aquinas made eight adjustments to their starting lineup in the second half to provide some energy early in the period. The Saints were able to control much of the possession early on, but could not get the ball past the Cornerstone outside backs in
Taylor Pratt and
Hannah Sell. Cornerstone then put the offensive pressure back on Aquinas in the final 15 minutes to hold onto a 1-0 victory.
