Five game road trip ends with 63-56 loss at Davenport for Women’s Basketball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone concluded a tough five game road trip with a 63-56 loss at Davenport. DU, now competing in the GLIAC at the NCAA Division II level, used a 7-0 run late in the fourth quarter to pull away from Cornerstone in a game that was close throughout. With the loss, CU now moves to 2-5 on the season, as they get set to return home to take on Calvin College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Game Flow
The Golden Eagles got off to a bit of a sluggish start falling behind 19-11 in the first quarter, as the ball pressure of the Panthers caused seven CU turnovers in the period. Cornerstone cut the deficit a bit in the second outscoring Davenport 15-11 to trail by just four going into the half. Jesse Sheridan led CU in the first half going 3-5 for 10 points.

Cornerstone continued to chip away in the third, taking their first lead 32-30 with 7:19 remaining in the period on a Cass Vredevoogd layup. The lead did not last long though, as Davenport went on a 5-0 run near the end of the third to hold a five-point lead going into the fourth. The Golden Eagles cut it back to just one in the fourth, but a 7-0 run by Davenport down the stretch was too much for CU to overcome, falling 63-56 in regulation.

By the Numbers
3 – Three Golden Eagles scored in double digits tonight; Jesse Sheridan (16), Sydney Muller (12), Taylor Richards (10).

Say What….?
"We fought hard tonight and never gave up, but we were unable to come out on top. I liked a lot of the things we did tonight, and we will continue to build off those things." Head Coach, Katie Mattera
