Fourth quarter run leads Women’s Hoops past Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone earned their third win of the season, outscoring Calvin 18-9 in the fourth quarter to earn a 70-59 victory. Freshman Shelby Nyboer went for a career high 18 points in the victory, while Jesse Sheridan recorded her sixth 20+ scoring performance of the season. The Golden Eagles are now 3-5 on the year, as they will return to WHAC action on Saturday vs. Concordia.

Game Flow
The Golden Eagles and Knights got off to fast starts in this one shooting multiple three-pointers in a high scoring first quarter.  The two teams combined for seven makes behind the arc in the first period. The inside game of Shelby Nyboer and Shaina DenBesten then helped CU go on an 8-0 run at the end of the first and the beginning of the second to take a 30-19 lead over Calvin. The three-point shooting of Ali Spayde (3-6) and Kara Minderhoud (4-4) kept the Knights in it though as they cut the deficit to 41-34 at the half.

Calvin came out with a full court press to start the third that proved effective in helping them take their first lead since the first quarter at 48-46. CU then went on a 9-0 run to begin the fourth, highlighted by a Mya Udell three-pointer to get back up 59-50. The Golden Eagle defense stifled the Knights comeback efforts down the stretch, allowing Calvin just nine points in the final period to earn a 70-59 win.
