FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 1 ranked Cornerstone Men's Basketball team picked a good weekend to get their first two wins of the season as less than 15 hours after beating No. 3 St. Francis on their home floor, the Golden Eagles took down No. 2 Union (Ky.) 69-54. The pair of wins at the USF Tourney leave CU at 2-2 on the year as they will play their home opener on Thursday, November 9 against Alma College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Mol Arena.
Game Flow
In a matchup of the two programs that played for a national title a year ago, Cornerstone and Union went back and forth over the first 15 minutes of the half but the last five was controlled by the Golden Eagles giving them a 34-20 lead at the break.
The second half saw
Sam Vander Sluis dominate in the paint and the junior forwarded ended the day with 26 points and 12 rebounds. The largest lead for CU came at the 1:01 mark (+20) as CU closed out their second straight win over a Top-3 ranked foe.
