LIVONIA, Mich. – The Golden Eagles took on the regular season champion Madonna Crusaders on Saturday afternoon in the WHAC Quarterfinals. Down 3-0 late in the game, Cornerstone scored two goals but failed to overcome the deficit. The loss brings the final record to 5-9-3, 4-5-2 in the WHAC.
Game Flow
Cornerstone jumped out to an aggressive start, outshooting the opposition 4-1 early in the first half. Yuri Farkas, who leads the WHAC in goals, found the back of the net with a minute to play in regulation to give Madonna a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Madonna was awarded penalty kicks in the 79
th and 83
rd minutes of regulation. They took a commanding 3-0 lead after converting both PKs.
Less than a minute later,
Kevin Nimmo got the Golden Eagles on the board to make it 3-1. With just over a minute to go,
James Pipe scored a highlight-reel bicycle kick goal to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Golden Eagles could not complete the comeback.
