FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Golden Eagles were unable to find their first win of the season in an early start at Saint Francis of Indiana, falling 67-45 to the No. 21 ranked Cougars. Shooting struggles continued for Cornerstone in the loss as they now move to 0-4 on the year. The tough schedule will continue for CU, as they will play their next three on the road. Next up for Cornerstone is the NCCAA opponent Grace Bible College on Tuesday, November 7.
Game Flow
Cornerstone got off to a bit of a sluggish start against the press defense of Saint Francis getting down 15-4 in the first quarter, forcing them into an early timeout. CU would then battle back, using the mid-range game of
Taylor Richards and
Jesse Sheridan to cut into the deficit in the second quarter. The three point shooting of USF hurt the Golden Eagles throughout the first half though, as the Cougars hit four from behind the arc to take a 31-20 lead into the break.
Saint Francis would use the inside game in the third quarter to maintain a lead, getting the Golden Eagles in foul trouble. CU had a total of 24 fouls on the game, and
Taylor Richards fouled out. Cornerstone would continue to struggle shooting going into the final quarter, getting down by as many as 22 in the fourth in a 67-45 loss to USF.
