GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles used their defense to power them to their third straight victory, defeating Bethel College 61-48 inside Mol Arena. Cornerstone now moves to .500 on the year at 8-8 overall, and they remain at 4-3 in conference action. CU will now take eight days off for Christmas before picking up action in another non-conference showdown at Indiana – Northwest on Friday, December 29 at 7 p.m.
Game Flow
Both the Golden Eagles and the Pilots were battling in a defensive struggle in the first quarter, as each team only scored 10 points in the first 10 minutes of action. Cornerstone continued their solid defense in the second quarter and finally found some offense, ending the period on an 11-0 run to take a 33-19 lead into the half.
Mya Udell continued her lights out shooting of late, with a first half high 11 points 3-3 shooting from behind the arc.
The defensive struggle continued into the second half, as CU added four more to their scoring run from the first half, holding Bethel without a point for six consecutive minutes of game action.
Taryn Sack found her rhythm down the stretch, scoring all 11 of her points in the second half to help the Golden Eagles to a game high 20 point lead with 4:55 remaining. Bethel started hitting some threes in the final few minutes, but fell to Cornerstone 61-48.
