GARY, Ind. – The Golden Eagles held IU-Northwest to just 25% shooting in the second half to overcome a halftime deficit and walk away with a 66-59 road victory. The freshman duo of
Shelby Nyboer and
Sydney Muller combined for 31 points to move CU above the .500 mark for the first time this season at 9-8 overall. Cornerstone will continue action tomorrow at Grand Valley in an exhibition game and then host UM-Dearborn on January 3.
Game Flow
The Golden Eagles came out dominating the post to earn an early 14-8 lead over the Redhawks and force them into an early first quarter time out. IU-Northwest used the three ball to get back into the game and take a four-point halftime lead. The Redhawks hit a total of six threes in the first half while Cornerstone hit just one to give them the 37-33 advantage at the break.
Cornerstone's defense picked up in the second half allowing IU-Northwest just 10 points in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth. The Redhawks played from behind most of the final period, but they gave a scare to the Golden Eagles cutting the deficit to just five with 1:58 remaining. A late three by
Mya Udell would seal the deal though, bringing the CU lead to eight points as they walked away with a 66-59 victory.
