Shooting struggles doom WBB in 58-57 loss to UM-Dearborn

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A charge call in the final seconds ended up being the difference in a wild Wednesday night loss for Cornerstone as they fell to UM-Dearborn 58-57 in Mol Arena. The loss ends a two game winning streak for the Golden Eagles, dropping them back below .500 on the year at 13-14, 10-9 WHAC. Cornerstone will host No. 6 Davenport for the last time as conference opponents on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Game Flow
The Golden Eagle defense picked up where they left off their past two games, holding UMD to just two points through the first 5:04 and 16.7% shooting for the half. Although, Cornerstone struggled offensively as well, scoring just nine points in the second period and 28 for the half to take a 28-19 lead into the break. Shaina DenBesten was very aggressive in the half, recording six points and six rebounds, while Jesse Sheridan led all scorers with eight.

The Wolverines addressed their first have shooting woes and fixed them in a hurry to begin the third period, hitting four threes in the quarter to cut the CU lead to just five. UMD continued to chip away in the fourth quarter, gaining their first advantage at 43-42 with 6:58 remaining. UM-Dearborn then brought the lead all the way up to six, but CU played the foul game and battled back to cut the deficit to one after a Lizzy Otten three and Jesse Sheridan layup. Cornerstone then had the chance to win it with seven seconds remaining, but a charge call ended the Golden Eagles chances resulting in a 58-57 loss.
