Softball drops WHAC-opening DH at No. 7 Davenport

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Golden Eagles played their first conference games on Wednesday against No. 7 Davenport in what was supposed to be the home opener and the Panthers won both games. DU won the opener 3-0 and followed with an 8-0 victory in the nightcap. The pair of losses drop Cornerstone to 5-13 overall and 0-2 in WHAC play and they will resume conference play Friday at Lourdes.

Game 1 – The Panthers put up two unearned runs in the top of the first inning and added an insurance run in the seventh inning. Rachel Younts and McKena Razenberg were the only two players to reach base for Cornerstone, with a base hit apiece. Younts pitched a complete game, surrendering ten hits, but only one earned run.

Game 2 – Davenport took the lead early in game two with a run in the first inning. They tallied six more in the fourth inning and another in the seventh to win 8-0. Moriah Wilke had two singles, while Alicia Ontiveros and Jessica Wright also had base hits. CU threatened to score in the fifth inning with the bases loaded but failed to score. Whitney Denton started the game before she was relieved by Whitney Heasley.
