Softball falls to Grace, defeats Spring Arbor

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Golden Eagles played two tight games on Saturday, losing the first 4-3 to Grace College and winning the second 4-3 over Spring Arbor. Cornerstone will take a 2-2 overall record into Monday's games against Mount Vernon Nazarene and Trinity Christian.

Game Flow

Cornerstone 3 – Grace College 4 – The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring two unearned runs in the first inning. Grace eventually tied the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Caitlyn Hartline gave Cornerstone a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single, but Grace responded with a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth to win it 4-3.

Cornerstone 4 – Spring Arbor 3 – With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Cierra Langejans drove in a pair of runs with a base hit up the middle. Spring Arbor scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. Down to the last out, Annie Fila hit a ground ball that found its way through the infield, then bounced past the centerfielder. Fila was able to make it all the way around the bases, tying the game at 3-3 with a little-league style inside the park home run. A few batters later, Alicia Ontiveros drove in the go-ahead run with a base hit. Brooke Leonard retired all three batters she faced in the bottom of the seventh, earning the save. Whitney Heasley earned the win.
