Softball splits for third consecutive day

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Golden Eagles defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene 4-3 before falling to Trinity Christian 13-0 for their third consecutive split of the spring break trip on Monday. The split leaves Cornerstone at 3-3 on tye year and Tuesday's action will feature games against Marian University and Cardinal Stritch University.
 
Game Flow
 
Cornerstone 4 – Mount Vernon Nazarene 3 – Mount Vernon got on the board first with a run in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth inning, Rachel Younts hit a solid line drive to centerfield, scoring two runs. Later in that inning, two more runs scored off the bat of Moriah Wilke. A couple of Mount Vernon RBI singles made it 4-3 in the seventh before Brooke Leonard got a strikeout and a flyout to end the game with the would-be tying run on second base.
Younts and Caitlyn Hartline each tallied two hits.
 
Cornerstone 0 – Trinity Christian 13 – The Golden Eagles struggled at the plate and in the field. Freshmen McKena Razenberg and Shelby Nelson had the only hits for Cornerstone. Trinity scored seven runs in the second, four in the third, and two in the fourth.
