Lieske shines in hard-fought pair of losses at Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles dropped both games of a doubleheader against Aquinas on Tuesday evening. Cornerstone blasted three home runs and put up a season-high 13 runs in game one, but fell 14-13 in extra innings. They dropped game two 10-2 in five innings. The losses drop CU's record to 7-17, 2-6 WHAC. They'll continue their season on Wednesday with a doubleheader against UM-Dearborn at Concordia's field.

Game Flow
 
Game 1 – Lexi Lieske hit a two-run home run in both the first and third innings to give Cornerstone a 4-3 advantage after three innings. Cornerstone extended their lead to 10-3 after four innings thanks to a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-RBI triple from Lieske. After a six-run response from Aquinas, Mackenzie Vallad added on to the lead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Saints tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and went on to win it in the eighth inning.

Game 2 – The Saints jumped out to a 9-0 lead after scoring three in the first and six in the second. The only Cornerstone runs came from RBI doubles by Alicia Ontiveros and Vallad in the third inning. Aquinas tacked on another run to end the game after five innings by mercy rule.

What's Next
The Golden Eagles will continue their busy week on Wednesday with a doubleheader against UM-Dearborn. Those games will be played at Concordia's field starting at 3:30pm.
On Thursday they'll be back in action at Cleary University and on Saturday they'll host Madonna.
