No. 19 Men’s Tennis falls 5-3 to Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Looking to close out the regular season with two more wins and solidify the third spot in the upcoming WHAC Tournament, the No. 19 ranked men's tennis team took a big hit as they fell 5-3 on the road to rival Davenport. The loss drops CU to 13-8 overall and 1-3 in league action. Cornerstone will conclude the regular season with a road match at Lawrence Tech and a home match vs. Concordia.

Doubles Highlights – In three tightly contested matches, Cornerstone would take a 2-1 edge after doubles play. CU won 9-7 on the tiop court behind the duo of Marc Lerch and Francisco Fernandez. The Golden Eagles then got a big point on the second court as Sam Ottosen and Austin Hendrick won 9-8 (7-5) while CU fell 8-5 on the third court.

Singles Highlights – Unforunately for Cornerstone, the Panthers roared back in singles and recorded four wins while one went unfinished to post the 5-3 upset. Marc Lerch was the long Golden Eagle to claim a point as the junior won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Matches 2-4 were decided in straight sets while CU had one forfeit match at No. 6.

CU will close out the regular season on Friday at Lawrence Tech and Saturday vs. Concordia.
