GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior Day featured a rare trio of games for the Cornerstone Softball team as they posted a win over Indiana Tech and a pair of losses against Northwestern Ohio. The 1-2 day leaves the Golden Eagles at 11-27 overall and 4-14 in WHAC play. CU will play a pair of non-conference DH's on Monday at home vs Calvin and Wednesday at Kalamazoo before finishing their season next Thursday at Lourdes.
Game 1 vs. UNOH – The Racers spoiled Senior Day and it happened rather quick as they hit a pair of home runs in the opener and eventually 6-2 after the second inning. CU did get a run in the bottom of the first when
Rachel Younts singled home
Alicia Ontiveros but that would be the only offense of the day for the Golden Eagles. UNOH extended their lead to 9-1 after just four innings and finished off CU in five for the mercy rule win.
Game 2 vs. UNOH – CU got off to a solid start as
Mackenzie Vallad doubled home
Lexi Lieske to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0 in the first inning. That lead would be short-lived however as the Racers four in their half of the second and added one in the third and two in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Game 3 vs. Indiana Tech – The Golden Eagles picked up a win in the final game of the day as they got the scoring started in the first inning with a 3-run home run from sophomore
Mackenzie Vallad. Indiana Tech would rally to tie the game at 3-3 with two runs in the second and one in the fifth but the winning run came in the sixth when
Moriah Wilke singled home
Rachel Younts.
Younts then closed the door on any further comeback as she picked her fifth win of the season in the circle.
