GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Golden Eagles hosted Calvin College on Monday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader and fell 1-0 in the first game and dropped the second game by a score of 4-3. Cornerstone, which is now 11-29 overall, will travel to Ohio on Wednesday to conclude their season with a doubleheader at Lourdes.
Game 1 – Calvin scored their run in the top of the first inning.
Alicia Ontiveros singled to right field in the bottom of the first inning but couldn't score. Calvin's defense retired the rest of the Cornerstone batters, 12 of which by the strikeout.
Mackenzie Vallad recorded four assists and two putouts at shortstop.
Game 2 – Calvin got on the board early with two runs in the first inning. Cornerstone responded with three runs in the third.
Whitney Denton drilled a 2-RBI double over the left fielder's head and went on to score off the bat of
Annie Fila. Calvin tied it up at 3-3 in the third inning. It was an even ball game until the seventh inning when Calvin took a 4-3 lead, then held the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the inning.
