SYLVANIA, Ohio – The six seed Golden Eagles played the five seed Crusaders in a WHAC Tournament elimination game, and were shutout 8-0 ending their season. CU is the first team to be eliminated from the WHAC Tournament, after losses to the top seed UNOH on Sunday and the fifth seed Madonna today. Cornerstone concludes the year with a 24-29 overall record and a 15-15 conference record under first year head coach
Chuck Lowitzki.
Game Flow – Cornerstone and Madonna were in a pitching duel for the majority of the game, as neither team was able to score a run on the opposing starting pitcher through the first six innings. Madonna starter Taylor Turner went seven innings strong allowing no runs and just four hits to the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone starter
Collin Young had just as spectacular of an outing, going 5.2 innings with no runs scoring on four hits.
The difference in the game was the bullpen, as CU was unable to score against reliever Cliff Landess and Madonna's offense managed to score eight runs against the relief-pitching duo of
Noah Reed and
Nick Hill. Six Crusader runs in the seventh inning and two in the eighth resulted in the final score of 8-0, eliminating the Golden Eagles from the WHAC Tournament and ending their season.
