Women’s Soccer ends home stand with 1-1 tie to Grace Bible

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – Despite outshooting the Tigers 43 to seven, Cornerstone was unable to earn a victory over the NCCAA opponent, tying 1-1. The Golden Eagles tie for the first time in the 2017 season to move their record to 2-2-1 on the year. CU will hit the road to play Crossroads League foe Goshen College on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Game Flow…
Cornerstone got off to a bit of a slow start, allowing GBC to get on the board first on a scramble for a ball in the box that was put in by Elenrae Befus in the 17th minute. CU went into the half down 1-0.

The Golden Eagles came out much stronger to start the second half, and they were rewarded for it, when Tori Johns scored her first goal of 2017 on a pass from Hannah Sell to tie the game at one. Cornerstone continued to dominate possession the rest of the second half, looking for that game winning goal, but the GBC defense was able to stifle them resulting in a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation.

In overtime, CU held possession for nearly the entire time, but again none of their nine shots in OT were able to find the net. Time eventually ran out on the Golden Eagles, as they tied Grace Bible for the first time in school history.

Inside the Box…
  • Cornerstone recorded 43 shots, the most since 2014 vs. the very same GBC Tigers.
  • Cornerstone saw four shots hit the crossbar or post in tonight's match.
  • Abby Workman got her first minutes as keeper for CU, as she came in to start the second half.
