Two-game week for Men’s Soccer highlighted by home opener

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Golden Eagles will continue their season on Wednesday with another trip to Illinois, this time to face Saint Xavier. They'll return home this weekend to host Trinity Christian in the home opener on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Both games will have live video and stats available at cugoldeneagles.com.

Scouting Saint Xavier
The Cougars enter Wednesday's match at an even 2-2 record in the 2017 season. Their
2016 campaign ended with a 5-10-4 overall record. Cornerstone knocked off Saint
Xavier 2-1 in last year's match. Danny Lopez, who led the Cougars with six goals and 15
points last season, will once again be an offensive threat. Caden Patten tallied two goals
in SXU's 2-0 victory over Shawnee State earlier this season.Goalkeeper Frank Valle
returns to the net after starting all 19 games for the Cougars with a 1.09 GAA a season
ago.

Scouting Trinity Christian
After an 8-9-1 overall record in 2016, the Trolls are off to a 2-3 start in 2017. Getenet
Timmermans has already recorded four goals and 12 shots on goal over the first five
games of the season. Head Coach Eric Salley returns for his second season at the
helm after leading the Trolls to their most successful season in five years in the 2016
campaign.
 
Strong Start for DeWalt
Dary DeWalt recorded a school-record 16 saves in the season opener against Olivet
Nazarene. His stellar performance earned him WHAC Defensive Player of the Week
honors. DeWalt finished the 2016 season with a 1.03 GAA in 11 starts.
