LA CROSSE, Wis. – Cornerstone suffered a pair of setbacks, one in four sets and one in five on the first day of the Viterbo Tournament in Wisconsin. The two losses to No. 23 Jamestown (N.D.) and Saint Xavier (Ill.) drop the Golden Eagles to 8-3 on the season as they will take on No. 2 Viterbo and #RV Olivet Nazarene on Saturday.
Match 1 – #23 Jamestown 3, #10 Cornerstone 1
The opening match of the tourney saw the #23 ranked Jimmies come back late in set one to win 28-26 and that momentum carried them to a 3-1 win. Cornerstone did get a 25-23 victory in the second but it was all Jamestown in the final two sets as they won 25-16, 25-19.
Kendra Zwart had 15 kills while
Heather Carlson had 11. CU had 29 hitting errors on the night and 10 serve receive errors.
Match 2 – Saint Xavier 3, #10 Cornerstone 2
Cornerstone looked to avoid a 2-match losing streak on the day but the Cougars came back from a 2-1 deficit to claim the 5-set win. Cornerstone jumped out to big leads in each of the first three sets but was only able to claim wins in two of them. SXU then won 25-18 in the fourth and came back from an 8-6 deficit in the final one to win 15-12.
Madison Herrema led the attack with 17 kills while Zwart contributed 16 and Carlson 15.

Cornerstone remains at Viterbo where they will take on the #2 ranked V-Hawks on Saturday and finish the tourney with Olivet Nazarene.
