OT loss ends 19-game winning streak for No. 1 Men’s Hoops

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Cornerstone jumped out to a 17-point lead in the first 10 minutes of the game but a huge run by Indiana Tech to end the first half and begin the second allowed the Warriors to eventually force OT where they won 74-67. The loss for the No. 1 ranked Golden Eagles is their first since late October as they fall to 19-2 overall and 11-1 in the WHAC. CU will come home for a 3-game home stand starting Wednesday when they host Lourdes at 7:30 p.m.

Game Flow
Everyone got involved in the first 14 minutes for the Golden Eagles as they jumped out to a big lead due to some strong outside shooting. Kyle Steigenga hit a pair of triples and he was joined in the shooting parade by Christian Rodriguez, Tyler Baker and Lance Martin. While CU was getting it done on the outside from multiple players, Sam Vander Sluis controlled the paint to help them build a 33-16 lead. Indiana Tech then started to chip away and finished the half on a 15-3 run to cut the margin to just five (36-31).

The Warriors continued their dominance into the second half as they scored the first eight points to go up 39-36. After a triple from Michael Bradshaw tied it up at 41-41, the teams never were separated by more than four as Tech held a 53-49 lead with 9:45 to play. CU responded with a 7-2 spurt to re-take the lead eventually led 63-61 with 1:43 to play after a Vander Sluis layup. With just over 30 seconds to play and the ball, CU had a costly turnover which led to the game-tying basket and another turnover by the Golden Eagles gave the Warriors a last second desperation shot which missed to send it into overtime.

The Golden Eagles went up 65-64 after a Michael Bradshaw jumper but then Tech scored six straight points and 10 of the last 12 to pull off the upset 74-67.
