GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Great post play and free throw shooting helped the Golden Eagles get revenge against the Gray Wolves, earning a 77-50 home victory. CU went 30-37 from the line along with seeing a combined 35 points from
Cass Vredevoogd and
Taylor Richards to move to 14-9, 9-4 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone will continue the three-game home stand next vs. Madonna on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Game Flow
Cornerstone and Lourdes got off to a bit a sloppy start, combining for 16 first quarter turnovers.
Cass Vredevoogd was the offensive bright spot in the period, scoring seven first quarter points on 3-4 shooting to help CU get out to a 13-10 lead. The offensive play would then pick up, as Cornerstone tallied a 10-0 run early in the second quarter, with eight of those points coming from junior
Jesse Sheridan. CU would continue to build momentum behind the inside game of
Taylor Richards to take a 38-22 lead into the break.
The post play would continue to dominate in the third quarter, as CU recorded a 6-0 and a 7-0 run to get up by as many as 25 in the period. Cornerstone shot a game best 53.8% on 7-13 shooting to get on top 60-39 at the end of the quarter. The CU bench then saw time in the fourth quarter, increasing the lead to a game high 27 to earn a 77-50 victory.
Sterling DeGayner tallied her first collegiate points in the win, hitting four free throws down the stretch.

30 – 30 made free throws is the most the Golden Eagles have made since the 2008-09 season when they also hit 30 in a win vs. UM-Dearborn.
