GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference released the 2018 men's soccer honors on Thursday. Cornerstone has seven different players represented across four categories, highlighted by senior defender
David Mutembezi, who earned First Team All-WHAC honors for the second consecutive season.
Luke Blickley,
James Pipe,
Allyn Anthony,
Matt Luce,
Habin Bang,
Kachinvya Silwamba also earned honors.
David Mutembezi - First Team All-WHAC
Mutembezi has solidified the Cornerstone defense as center back in every game this season. The senior also is tied for most goals on the team, including a clutch game-tying goal late against Aquinas and the game-winning goal against Lourdes. Mutembezi earned First Team honors as a junior, and Second Team honors as a sophomore. Since 2015, Mutembezi has appeared in 65 games for the Golden Eagles.
Luke Blickley - WHAC All-Newcomer Team
Blickley found his spot in the lineup at left back early in the season, starting 14 games as a freshman defender. Blickley recorded his first collegiate assist on October 20 against Cleary.
James Pipe - WHAC Champions of Character Team
As a fifth-year senior, Pipe has been the go-to forward for the Golden Eagles all season, leading the team with 31 shots, three goals, and four assists.
Allyn Anthony, Matt Luce, Habin Bang, and Kachinvya Silwamba - WHAC All-Academic Team
To earn this award, a player must be a junior or senior in academic standing and maintain a 3.25 GPA or higher. Anthony, Luce, and Silwamba all earned the award last year as well.
