Women’s Basketball holds on to earn first win 64-63 over Grace Christian

WYOMING, Mich. – In an unusual finish where Grace Christian had the opportunity to tie the game with a pair of free throws at the buzzer, Cornerstone was able to avoid upset as the Tigers hit just one of the two at the line. The Golden Eagles get their first win of the season with the 64-63 victory to move to 1-4 on the year. CU will continue the road trip at No. 14 Saint Francis (Ind.) on Wednesday at 3 p.m. 

What you need to know? 
  • CU started the game on a 10-0 run behind a pair of threes from Mya Udell and Broghan Gamble
  • The Golden Eagles were hot from the three-point line in the first quarter hitting three of them to take a 21-14 lead at the end of the period. 
  • Grace Christian started the second quarter on a 11-4 run to tie the game at 25, but CU responded by scoring 10 of the last 13 points in the half to take a 37-30 lead into the half. 
  • Shelby Nyboer went 7-8 in the first half for 14 points to lead the Golden Eagles. 
  • The Tigers came out with a great third quarter, going on an 13-2 run to regain the lead at 43-39. 
  • Grace held a 49-46 lead at the end of the third quarter.  
  • Both teams would trade leads in the fourth resulting in a 60-60 tie with just under two minutes remaining. 
  • Mya Udell stole the inbound and hit a huge layup to give CU a 62-60 lead. 
  • Grace would get the chance to tie the game with free throws on a foul at the buzzer but was only able to go 1-2 at the line, giving CU their first win 64-63.

22/16 – Shelby Nyboer recorded a career high 22 points and 16 rebounds in the win. 
3 – Mya Udell hit three of the Golden Eagles six three pointers on the game. 
31.7 – Cornerstone held their opponent to a season low 31.7% shooting from the field.

Cornerstone will continue a four-game road trip at No. 14 Saint Francis on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
