No. 1 Men’s Hoops survives road trip at Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -  Cornerstone claimed at least a share of its 10th regular season WHAC Championship thanks to a tough 74-72 road win at Rochester on Saturday afternoon. The win is the sixth in a row for the Golden Eagles as they improve to 25-3 overall and 17-1 in the conference. CU will remain on the road for their next contest when they face No. RV UM-Dearborn on Wednesday, February 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Game Flow
The first half of conference play saw the Rochester College Warriors give Cornerstone their toughest battle and Saturday was no different as RC built an early lead and maintained it throughout the first 10 minutes. That lead grew to as many as seven (30-23) until things started to gel for the Golden Eagles. Inside play from Sam Vander Sluis and steady point guard play from Christian Rodriguez allowed CU to close the half on a 19-5 run to lead 42-35.

That momentum carried into the second and CU quickly went up by nine at 44-35 and had that lead a couple times in the next 10-12 minutes. But Rochester got hot from behind the arc and slowly cut into the Cornerstone lead but after RC cut it to 64-63 with just under four minutes to play, Michael Bradshaw hit a big triple to put the lead back up to four. The Warriors would not go away however as some missed FT's down the stretch by the Golden Eagles gave the home team one last chance with 6.1 second left but a turnover at half court allowed CU to escape with the 2-point win.
