Late bucket by UM-Dearborn downs Women’s Hoops 66-65

DEARBORN, Mich. – After Cornerstone took a 65-64 lead on a Mya Udell three with just 2:23 remaining, UM-Dearborn hit a jumper that would doom the Golden Eagles by a 66-65 final score. CU was down by as many as 11 points in the second half and would rally all the way back to take a lead, but they could not find the crucial bucket needed to walk away with the road victory. The Golden Eagles have now lost three straight games and move to 16-13, 11-8 WHAC record. The regular season will conclude with senior day on Saturday at 1 p.m. vs. No. 19 Lawrence Tech.

Game Flow
Cornerstone and UM-Dearborn traded buckets throughout the first quarter, with the largest lead being four points for either team in the period. An 8-2 run by the Wolverines in the second quarter got them their largest lead of the first half at nine behind the inside game of Jeorgia Jones and outside game of Sade Lemons. CU would then score 11 of the last 15 points in the half behind the inside game of Taylor Richards to cut the deficit to 42-37.

After UM-Dearborn got up by 10 in the third quarter, Cornerstone would come all the way back to take a 56-54 lead at the end of the period. The game would remain close throughout the final 10 minutes of play, but the Wolverines would hold unto the lead for much of the period. With just 2:23 remaining, Mya Udell would hit a three to give the Golden Eagles a 65-64 advantage. Meredith Williams would then respond with a jumper for UM-Dearborn to give them the lead back with 1:21 remaining. CU would have the last chance with 23 seconds remaining, but were unable to score on a few opportunities resulting in a 66-65 loss.  

Inside the Box
13 – Shelby Nyboer came off the bench to lead the Golden Eagles in scoring on an efficient 5-8 shooting.
55-27 –  The UM-Dearborn bench outscored the Cornerstone bench.
12 – Sydney Muller pulled down a career high 12 rebounds in the loss.
12/10 – Jesse Sheridan (12) and Cass Vredevoogd (10) also scored in double figures on the game.
