Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles fell behind 3-0 in doubles play and then took just one of the six singles' contests as they fell 8-1 to Calvin College in the 2018 season opener. Cornerstone will have a few days off before resuming play on February 16 at home against Alma College.
Doubles Highlights – Calvin, playing on their home court, got the leg up with two dominant wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles as they outscored CU 16-1. The Golden Eagles had a strong battle on the third court as
Madeline Grose and
Sierra Griffith would eventually go down 8-3 after trailing 6-3.
Singles Highlights – Singles play started with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins for the Knights over
Marissa Hooker and
Ana Hoezee to clinch the match with five wins. CU did get their lone point on the sixth court as
Nicole VerHulst won 6-4, 6-4 over Brittney Statema.
Cornerstone will resume play in Grand Rapids on February 16 when they host another MIAA foe in Alma College.
