Softball mercies HGLU, falls to IUSB to conclude spring break trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Golden Eagles wrapped up their spring break trip with a pair of games on Saturday evening. They mercied Hannibal-LaGrange 10-2 in six innings before falling short to Indiana University at South Bend by a score of 4-1. After starting the trip with a pair of two-loss days, Cornerstone had a sweep and a trio of splits to bring their overall record to 5-7. The team will prepare to host Indiana Tech on March 28 on the brand new Cornerstone Softball field.


Game 1 vs. Hannibal-LaGrange – Cornerstone rallied for three runs in the second inning to bust open the deficit to 4-1 and never turned back. Maddie Vassar and Madison Gallagher had RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings to seal a comfortable 10-2 victory for the Golden Eagles. Rachel Younts pitched a complete game and surrendered two earned runs for her third win of the season.

Game 2 vs. Indiana University at South Bend – The Cornerstone offense cooled off in the nightcap of the double header, only tallying four hits over the course of the game. The lone run came in off an RBI groundout by Moriah Wilke in the third inning. Brooke Leonard only surrendered one earned run over six innings of work.

McKena Razenberg - 1-for-1 with two walks, 1 run

6 – Career-high assists in a game for Alicia Ontiveros
.314 – The sophomores (Lieske, Ontiveros, Razenberg, Langejans) combined for a solid .314 batting average over the 12 games.
17 – Seventeen different Golden Eagles recorded a hit in Florida.

Cornerstone will have a couple weeks off before getting into conference play against Indiana Tech on March 28.
