Box Score 2 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's tennis team returned to action after a long layoff from matches and finished with a pair of tough 5-4 setbacks to Spring Arbor on Friday and Indiana Tech on Saturday in the conference opener. The pair of losses drop the Golden Eagles to 2-4-1 on the season as they will return to WHAC play on April 7 against University of Northwestern Ohio.
Spring Arbor Highlights: CU fell behind 2-1 after doubles play with the lone point coming from the top court and senior duo of
Austin Hendrick and
Sam Ottosen. They won their match 8-4 while the Golden Eagles fell 8-6 at No. 2 and 9-7 at No. 3.
Cornerstone then split the singles matches with Hendrick winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2,
John Cocoma winning 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 and
Dan Ribbink winning 6-3. 0-6, 10-8 at No. 5.
Indiana Tech Highlights: The Golden Eagles got a lift in doubles play as they took a 2-1 lead thanks to win from Ottosen and Hendrick on Court 1 and a victory on Court 2 from Cocoma andÂ
Aliaksei Kanstantsinau. CU would then muster just two wins on the singles' side from Ottosen and Hendrick to fall in a heart-breaker 5-4.
