LEESBURG, Fla. – The Golden Eagles traveled to Leesburg, Florida on Monday for a couple of games against Trinity Christian and Calumet. The offense was silent in an 8-0 loss to Trinity Christian before coming alive against Calumet, but falling just short by a score of 6-3. Cornerstone will return to the field on Tuesday to play against Trinity International at 10:00 a.m. and Bethel at noon.
Game 1 – Trinity Christian scored a pair of runs in the second and fourth innings before putting up four runs in the fifth inning, ending the game 8-0 by mercy rule. Rachel Younts, Alicia Ontiveros, and Lexi Lieske recorded the hits for the Golden Eagles.
Game 2 – Calumet put up a quick six runs in the second inning. Cornerstone threatened to score in the fourth inning with a few baserunners, but couldn't cross the plate. The fifth inning began with a single from Cierra Langejans and a double by Sierra Sanchez. Courtney Ducharme drove them home with a double to deep center field. In the sixth inning, Savanna Sanchez hit a ball to the fence to score Alicia Ontiveros. The Golden Eagles had the bases loaded in the seventh inning with the tying run on base but the game ended 6-3 in favor of Calume
