GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles welcomed Siena Heights to the CU Softball field for the first of five doubleheaders this week. The first game took 17 innings to find a winner, where Siena Heights prevailed 8-4. The nightcap also ended in the Saints' favor by a score of 3-2. The pair of losses brings Cornerstone's record to 11-13 overall, 6-6 WHAC. They'll return to the home field tomorrow to take on Aquinas at 3:30 in another WHAC Doubleheader.
Game 1 –
Cierra Langejans got CU on the board right away in the first inning with an RBI single. The Golden Eagles led 3-0 after one inning.
Maddie Vassar hit an infield single in the 4th inning to make CU's lead 4-1. Siena Heights tallied one run in the 5th and a pair in the 6th to even the game at 4-4. The Golden Eagles stranded a total of 12 runners on base over the course of the 10 extra frames, but it was Siena Heights who would crack the ice with four runs in the top of the 17th inning.

Game 2 – Cornerstone got both of their runs in the 2nd inning.

Maddie Vassar each tallied a bases-loaded RBI single to center field. Siena Heights knotted the game at 2-2 with a run in the 3rd inning and another in the 5th inning. The Golden Eagles stranded two runners on base in both the 4th and 5th innings but couldn't take the lead. The Saints scored an unearned run in the 6th inning that would prove to be the game winner.

Freshmen Maddie Vassar, Sierra Sanchez, and Courtney Ducharme each went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Cornerstone's record drops to 11-13 overall, 6-6 WHAC heading into Tuesday afternoon's games against Aquinas. Those games will be played at CU Softball Field, but Aquinas will be the home team in the games.
