SALINE, Mich. – The Golden Eagles came up short in game one of a crucial series against UM-Dearborn, falling 9-2 in Friday's nine-inning affair. Both teams would struggle to score early before the Wolverines irrupted for seven runs in the final three innings to earn the victory. With the loss, Cornerstone is now 23-23, 11-17 WHAC with just two regular season games remaining that will both take place tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
Game Flow – The Wolverines drew first blood in this one, scoring two runs on a Danny Kerr single in the bottom of the third. CU would then respond in the fifth inning with an RBI triple from
Brady Eeles and a sacrifice fly from
Aaron Krupansky to tie the game back up at 2-2. Cornerstone starter
Collin Young would allow eight hits in his first five innings of work but keep UM-Dearborn to just two runs.
Young would run into trouble in the sixth, getting forced out of the game as UM-Dearborn scored four runs to take a 6-2 lead. The Wolverines would not stop there, adding one more insurance run in both the seventh and two more in the eighth against the Cornerstone bullpen to earn an 9-2 victory in the series opener.
