GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's tennis team enters the most difficult portion of their schedule and they got it started with a tough 9-0 setback to non-conference foe Spring Arbor on Friday evening. The Golden Eagles fall to 5-3 on the season with the loss as they will host nationally ranked Northwestern Ohio on Saturday morning at GR Racquet and Fitness Club at 9 a.m.
Doubles Highlights: The Cougars took a 3-0 edge into the singles portion thanks to a sweep of 8-0 at No. 2, 8-1 at No. 1 and 8-3 at No. 3. The closest CU came was on the third court behind the play of reigning WHAC Player of the Week
Marissa Hooker and
Nicole VerHulst.
Singles Highlights:
Sierra Griffith put up the biggest fight for Cornerstone as the sophomore fell in a three-set tie-breaker, 6-4, 2-6, 10-2. SAU controlled the play in the other five matches, winning four of them in straight sets and the other was by default.
What's Next? Cornerstone will host No. 8 UNOH on Saturday at 9 a.m.
