Luce scores to give Men’s Soccer the 1-0 win on Night of Nets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Matt Luce came up as the hero in Cornerstone's annual Night of Nets game, scoring a goal late in the first half to give CU a 1-0 win in the conference opener. Luce in his fourth start this season scored his first collegiate goal as he muscled his way past the Concordia defense to score the game winner. With the win, CU is now 2-5-1 on the year and 1-0-0 in WHAC play. The Golden Eagles will continue WHAC play when they host rival Aquinas on Wednesday at 7 p.m. 

How it happened: 
-    First half saw minimal offensive action until Matt Luce fought through the defense in the 40th minute and scored his first collegiate goal that gave CU the 1-0                       lead. 
-      James Pipe received a yellow card in the 48th minute that gave the Cardinals a free kick. 
-      Concordia' Dante D'Aloisio received a yellow card in the 79th minute of the match. 
-      Cornerstone held off Concordia in the second half stopping all five shots they recorded. 
-      Joshua Mitchell recorded four saves in the match to earn his third shutout of the season.

-      The Golden Eagles outshot the Cardinals 13-10 on the match. 
-      CU continues to hold a perfect record in Night of Nets games. 
-      Cornerstone is now 1-0-0 in conference play.
