Box Score ADRIAN. Mich. – The Cornerstone women's tennis team opened up their 2018-19 campaign on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 sweep of host Adrian College. The Golden Eagles only dropped one set on the day as they will resume action on October 6 at IU-South Bend.
Doubles Highlights – Two new faces to the CU lineup made their collegiate debut as
Valentina Garcia partnered with
Marissa Hooker at No. 1 and they defeated their opponent, 8-3. Fellow newcomer
Olivia Kelley teamed up with
Nicole VerHulst to win 8-6 on the second court. CU made it a sweep with an 8-3 win on court three behind
Lauren Brendel and
Amanda VerHulst.
Singles Highlights – CU dropped only one set in the entire singles portion as Kelley (6-3, 6-1) and Garcia (6-2, 6-3) won on the top two courts, followed by straight set wins from Hooker (6-1, 6-3) on court three,
Nicole VerHulst (6-1, 6-0) on court four and
Amanda VerHulst (6-2, 6-) on court five.
What's Next? Cornerstone will play two more fall matches, starting Saturday, October 6 at IU-South Bend and finishing on October 20 with Roosevelt (Ill.).
