Second half surge gives Women’s Soccer home opener victory

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone scored twice in the first six minutes of the second half to earn a comeback 2-1 victory over Huntington in the 2018 home opener. CU earns their first win of the year to move to 1-1-0 on the year. The Golden Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they continue a four-game home stand vs. Saint Xavier tomorrow at 7 p.m.

  • Matea Kinispel scored for Huntington in the 38thminute on a free kick from outside the box for the lone goal in the first half of the game. 
  • Alexys Riksen scored to tie the game on a pass across the box from Raelee VandenBerg to tie the game at 1-1 in the 48thminute. 
  • Erica Mick scored the game winning goal (her first of the year) on a pass from Alexys Riksen to give CU a 2-1 lead in the 52ndminute. 
  • The two goals for Cornerstone were scored in a span of 4:34 seconds.
