GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Cornerstone Women's Basketball team made a strong statement to open their 2019-20 season. The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead and took down the Grace Christian Tigers by a score of 74-56. Cornerstone was led by
Rebekah Crosby, who notched her first career double-double with a 16-point, 11-rebound effort. Freshman
Kennedy Helderop was second on the squad with 13 points on her debut. CU is now 1-0 on the season and will look to continue their strong start when they head to Winona Lake, Indiana this Saturday to take on Grace College. Tipoff is at 1 pm, with live links available at cugoldeneagles.com.

- Broghan Gamble nailed the first basket of the season for the Golden Eagles, hitting an open three after breaking down the Tigers 2-3 zone.
- CU opened the game on a 9-0 run, leading to a Grace timeout with 7:12 remaining in the first quarter.
- The two squads traded buckets for the remainder of the quarter, with CU stretching out a 26-11 lead after one.
- A strong start to the second quarter by Grace, gave CU no choice but to call timeout with a 28-21 lead four minutes in.
- The Golden Eagles kept their foot on the gas and led by their strong defense, took a 37-28 lead into halftime.
- A back and forth start to the second half saw Cornerstone up 43-35 with six minutes left in the third.
- The Golden Eagle offense poured it on, with a Sterling DeGayner dagger from deep putting CU up 51-35 midway through the third.
- Cornerstone took a 58-46 lead into the fourth quarter, after five minutes of action the score stood at 62-50 with 4:48 left on the clock.
- A strong finish by the Golden Eagles helped them put the game away comfortably, walking away 74-56 victors.
