WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Looking to build on their success against Grace Christian, Cornerstone was blitzed by Grace College in a 97-57 loss. The Lancers used an aggressive full court press for the majority of the game and used the pressure to control the game. They had five players in double figures, led by Vironnica Drake, who had 18.
Sterling DeGayner led CU with 10 points, while
Shelby Nyboer and
Rebekah Crosby added 8 a piece.
Kaycee Sluiter's 6 rebounds were most on the team and
Kennedy Helderop created four assists. Cornerstone are now 1-1 on the season and will look to bounce back against Indiana Wesleyan University this Tuesday at 6 pm. The game will be played at Mol Arena and live links will be available at cugoldeneagles.com.
Game Flow:
- Grace jumped out to an 8-0 early and stretched it as far as 19-3 halfway through the first.
- The Golden Eagles struggled to get their offense going, but drew within ten after the first quarter, down 23-13.
- The Lancers ramped up the pressure in the second quarter, as their full court pressure suffocated the Cornerstone offense.
- At the end of the first half, Grace commanded a 54-29 lead.
- The third quarter was more of the same, with Grace's pressure never waning.
- Entering the fourth quarter, Cornerstone trailed 82-42.
- The 40 point gap between the two squads remained that way until the final buzzer, with both teams putting up 15 in the fourth quarter, ending the game with a score of 97-57 Grace.
