Women's soccer makes it three wins straight with 2-1 victory over Cleary

HOWELL, Mich. – Cornerstone overcame dreary conditions and a biting wind to take down the Cougars of Cleary University by a score of 2-1 this afternoon. The Golden Eagles have ridden a three-match win streak to a 12-4-0 record (6-3-0 WHAC). With the victory, CU sits 5th in the WHAC standings. Cornerstone's next chance to move up in the WHAC standings comes this Wednesday, when they will travel to Lawrence Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm and you can follow along live at cugoldeneagles.com.
 
The Highlights
  • CU got on the board in the 26th minute thanks to an Anna Morgan goal off of an Alexys Riksen assist.
  • Cleary answered back 11 minutes later. A shot, initially saved by Abby Workman, fell into the path of Hannah Yanssens. The Cougar finished the chance to knot the match at 1-1.
  • The teams went to the half tied at one all, but Cornerstone wasted no time taking the lead. Anna Morgan floated in the perfect pass, which was finished by defender Grace Wiersema to put CU back up 2-1.
  • The Golden Eagles held on for the remainder of the match, fighting off both the Cougars and the weather, to claim the victory.
