Women's soccer loses a nail biter 2-1 against Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In a hard fought WHAC contest, Cornerstone dropped to 7-3-0 (1-2-0 WHAC) with a 2-1 loss to Aquinas. The match was an intense affair with both teams creating multiple chances. With the loss, the Golden Eagles have now lost two straight, both of which were conference matches. CU will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday with a home match against Indiana Tech at 2:30pm.

The Highlights
  • Aquinas struck first with a goal in the fifth minute. A defensive scramble led to an open net and Raegan Radaz finished comfortably.
  • The Golden Eagles had their breakthrough 35 minutes in. Anna Morgan picked up the ball just inside the Aquinas half, split the defense, and fired a shot into the bottom right corner to tie the match at 1-1.
  • The second half was largely back and forth until a stroke of luck gave Aquinas the lead. Another defensive miscue by CU put Filippa Struxsjo through on goal. The Saint took one look at goalkeeper Mikayla Johnson and tucked her shot away to give Aquinas the lead with eight minutes to play.
  • Cornerstone attempted to equalize with a flurry of late chances, but ultimately fell short in a 2-1 loss.
