Women's soccer bounces back with 3-1 win over Indiana Tech

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Hungry to snap a two-match losing streak, Cornerstone bounced back with a 3-1 win over WHAC foe Indiana Tech. With the victory, the Golden Eagles are now 8-3-0 (2-2-0 WHAC). Indiana Tech falls to 4-6-0 (0-3-0 WHAC) after today's result. CU's next match will be on the road on October 8th against Rochester University at 1:30 pm.
 
The Highlights
  • Cornerstone jumped out to an early lead thanks to Alexys Riksen. The senior was played through by Erica Mick and finished easily.
  • Both the Golden Eagles and the Warriors created chances with Indiana Tech breaking through in the 39th minute. IT drew a penalty kick, which was saved by Mikayla Johnson. However, the shot was too hot to handle, and the rebound was finished by Kayla Saffran to tie the match at 1-1.
  • CU started the second half strong and took the lead off of a Phoebe LaCroix goal with 35 minutes to play. LaCroix took a through ball from Jozlyn VanTol and finished smoothly in the bottom left corner to put the Golden Eagles back on top.
  • Madissen Kruit decided to put her mark on the match in the 74th minute, firing home a free kick from roughly 40 yards out to put CU up 3-1 and wrap up the win.
