Volleyball set to host alumni weekend with pair of WHAC matches

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  After a bye on Wednesday, Cornerstone is set to get back to conference action with a pair of home matches vs. Lourdes and Siena Heights this weekend. Cornerstone will be hosting alumni weekend where after each match alumni are invited to spend time with the team in fellowship over some snacks. The game on Friday vs. Lourdes will take place at 7 p.m. while Saturday's match will be a 1 p.m. Live video/stats/audio will all be available at cugoldeneagles.com.

Quick Facts: 
  • Cornerstone raised enough money to provide over 325 bed nets to families in Africa with their Night of Nets game they hosted vs. UM-Dearborn last Wednesday. 
  • CU went 2-1 last week with a pair of sweeps vs. UM-Dearborn and at Rochester, followed by a 3-0 loss to receiving votes Lawrence Tech. CU is now 7-8, 4-3 WHAC and sits tied for fifth in the conference standings. 
  • Redshirt sophomore Kayla Clark is just 201 assists away from 2,000 in her career as she has 566 this season. On Wednesday, Clark recorded 48 assists in a three-set match which is the most in a three setter in program history for the Golden Eagles. 
  • Junior Alexis Angus recorded her 100thcareer block at Lawrence Tech last weekend. Angus currently leads the team with 153 kills, a .307 hitting percentage, and 51.0 blocks. 
 
Opponent Facts: 
-      Lourdes is 8-7, 5-2 WHAC this season and sits tied for third in the conference standings.
-      Lourdes started the year with four straight three set losses before picking it up and winning five of their last six matches.
-      Of the Gray Wolves 15 games this season, 11 of them have been three set matches.
-      Cornerstone is 9-7 all-time against Lourdes.
-      Siena Heights has struggled in the early going of 2019 going just 4-9, 2-5 WHAC to start the year.
-      SHU has used a lot of different players early this season, with eight different athletes having 20+ kills so far this season.
-      All five conference losses for the Saints are in three sets while the wins each came in four over Rochester and Concordia.
