Late goal boosts Indiana Tech over Men's Soccer

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles returned to the CU Soccer Field on Saturday for their first game in 24 days on their home pitch. A late goal by Indiana Tech broke a 1-1 deadlock hand Cornerstone their third consecutive loss to begin WHAC play. The Golden Eagles (1-8-1, 0-3 WHAC) will take on another pack of Warriors on Wednesday night when Rochester comes to town.

The Highlights
  • After maintaining most of the possession early in the first half, Indiana Tech got on the board with a goal in the 27th minute.
  • Micah Boggs nearly evened the score with a breakaway just minutes after the Warriors scored, but the goalkeeper was able to knock it away before Boggs got a shot away.
  • Cornerstone did not register a shot in the first half.
  • Indiana Tech thought they had doubled midway through the second half, but the play was called back due to offside.
  • In the 58th minute, the Golden Eagles evened the score at 1-1 on just their second shot of the game. Brennan Joseph crossed the ball into the middle where Christian Galloway was able to get a touch on it and put it in the back of the net, despite being closely guarded by a defender.
  • After recording six shots in the first half, the first Warrior shot came with 18 minutes to play in regulation.
  • Galloway and Luke Blickley both had long distance scoring opportunities late in the second half that nearly soared into the goal, but both went wide.
  • With just over a minute remaining in regulation, a scramble in front of the Cornerstone net led to the Warriors burying what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
