GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles continued conference play on Wednesday when the Rochester Warriors paid a visit to the CU Soccer Stadium. The Warriors scored a late goal in each half and held the Golden Eagles off the board in the 2-0 decision. The loss sets Cornerstone back to 1-9-1, 0-4 WHAC heading into a tough weekend contest on the road at #17 UNOH.
The Highlights:
- After a relatively uneventful start to the first half, Rochester finally broke the ice with seven minutes to go before halftime. A ricochet in front of the net led to an easy tap in by Christian Gjelaj to put the Warriors up 1-0.
- With just over a minute to play in the first half, a red card was shown to a Rochester player, forcing the visitors to play shorthanded for the remainder of the contest.
- The first 15 minutes of the second frame saw a pair of set piece opportunities for the Golden Eagles just outside of the 18-yard box, a pair of corner kicks, and two shots on goal. Despite the opportunities, Cornerstone could not find the back of the net.
- The Warriors added their second goal of the game on a breakaway in the waning moments of the contest to seal the victory.
