Volleyball travels to Madonna for WHAC Quarterfinal match

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The two-time defending WHAC Tournament Champion Golden Eagles look to defend their title as they travel to a tough Madonna squad for the three vs. six seed match-up on Wednesday evening. CU comes into the tournament as the six seed, hoping to get an early upset to make some noise in a very wide-open conference tournament. Action will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Activities center in Livonia, and live video, audio, and stat links can be found at cugoldeneagles.com.

Quick Facts: 
  • Cornerstone has won five WHAC Tournament Championships in program history, winning in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2017, and 2018.
  • Madonna is a familiar opponent for the Golden Eagles in the WHAC Tournament as the two teams have seen each other three of the past four seasons in post season play. 
  • Cornerstone has not lost a WHAC Quarterfinal match since 2014. The team last lost to rival Aquinas in the quarterfinal in five sets. 
  • Cornerstone has done well on the road this season, posting a 6-6 record in true road games to go .500 for the second consecutive year. 
  • In the regular season finale win at Concordia, CU tied a season low with just 11 attacking errors. In set two of the match, Cornerstone hit .654 as a team with 19 kills and just two errors. 
  • Cornerstone continues to be one of the best blocking teams in the country, leading the WHAC with 2.3 blocks per set. The team also is 14thin the country with 266.5 total blocks in 2019.
