GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – There was rain, there was snow, and there was even a little sun as Cornerstone defeated Madonna 2-1 in overtime to claim a massive victory. With the win, CU finishes the regular season 14-4-0 with an 8-3-0 record in the WHAC. The Golden Eagles will now await official confirmation to find out their opponent for their home WHAC tournament match. The match is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 6
th with the time yet to be announced.
The Highlights
- Cornerstone struck 3 minutes in thanks to Alexys Riksen. The senior collected a pass from Grace Wiersema, turned and finished into the bottom left corner to put CU up 1-0.
- Both sides generated chances, with CU dictating the flow for the majority of the first 45 minutes.
- Coming out of the half 1-0, the Golden Eagles looked slightly flat and Madonna capitalized, scoring in the 47th minute.
- Madonna held CU in for the remainder of the second half, with the Crusaders dominating in possession and scoring chances.
- After 90 minutes, there was nothing to separate the two sides with the score locked at 1-1, so overtime was required.
- One overtime period was all Cornerstone needed to grab the victory. Kylie Adams trapped a floated pass from Lucy Bouvier and smashed it into the bottom left corner to give CU a 2-1 victory.
