Trinity comes from behind to defeat Women's Basketball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles hosted Trinity Christian on Saturday afternoon. Cornerstone held nine- and 11-point leads after the second and third quarters, respectively, but the Trolls exploded for 30 points in the final frame to win by a 72-63 margin. The Golden Eagles will be back in action at Lawrence Tech next Saturday to open WHAC play.

Game Flow:
  • Cornerstone ended the first quarter on an 11-3 run to take a 21-14 lead after one quarter. Rebekah Crosby put up eight points and five rebounds in the first ten minutes of action. 
  • At the halfway point of the 2nd quarter, Katrina Goebel hit a layup and the corresponding free throw after she was fouled to extend CU's lead to 11, the largest of the half. 
  • Cornerstone led 33-24 at halftime. 
  • Back-to-back three-pointers for Trinity cut the deficit to as little as three in the third quarter, but Brooke Modderman responded with a three of her own to extend the lead back to six. 
  • Two jump shots for Kaycee Sluiter helped Cornerstone to a 53-42 lead after three quarters. 
  • With 3:52 remaining in regulation, Trinity recaptured the lead for the first time since leading 11-10 just four minutes into the game. 
  • The Trolls outscored the Golden Eagles 30-10 in the 4th quarter to end the game by a score of 72-63.

By the Numbers
  • Crosby led the team with 16 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. 
  • Shelby Nyboer chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds
  • Katrina Goebel scored a season-high six points. 
  • After going 5-for-7 in the last game against St. Francis, Broghan Gamble stayed hot from beyond the arc by going 3-for-4.

What's Next?
The Golden Eagles will have a week off of game action before starting WHAC play on Saturday, November 16 at Lawrence Tech.
